MS Spitsbergen is named after the Arctic crown of Norway – the archipelago of Spitsbergen where Hurtigruten has a long history of travelling to, starting back in 1896 with the Sports Route. After a complete reconstruction, MS Spitsbergen has been included in the Hurtigruten fleet since 2016, spending part of the year sailing the Norwegian Coast and part of the year as part of the expedition programme to destinations further afield.
The ship features modern and comfortable public areas and cabins with a fresh, Scandinavian design. Despite being one of the newest ships, she is also one of the smallest carrying a maximum of just 335 passengers, it is also possible to get views out of both sides of the ship from many of the public areas including the main lounge.
Her small size provides an intimate atmosphere, however she is not short on facilities with a restaurant, bar, fitness centre and sauna with a view! There is also plenty of deck space for enjoying those amazing views!
