Polar Routes Review - Martin's visit:
"The buzz around the Polar Routes office surrounding the launch of the Scenic Eclipse has been considerable, and it’s fair to say my expectations for our visit were high. From my first glimpse of the ship, I immediately got a sense that this expedition ship was going to be a little bit special. Often expedition ships are not pretty, as they’re built for practicality, however, the Scenic Eclipse is beautiful and would look as at home in Monte Carlo as it would in Antarctica. Step aboard and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d walked into a sleek, boutique London hotel with dark woods, stylish furniture and light grey carpets which I think worked very well. The ships features are vast including a beautifully appointed spa, yoga studio, cooking classroom and an amazing presentation lounge with screens on 3 walls and reclining chairs. You certainly won’t go hungry with 10 dining options and I particularly liked the look of Koko’s which offers Sushi, Asian cuisine and Teppanyaki in one venue. When it comes to exploring, there are plenty of features here too including 17 expedition staff, 12 zodiacs, kayaks and you can’t ignore the 2 helicopters and submarine sitting on the back – it feels slightly like the stuff of James Bond! For me, the ship certainly sets a new benchmark of luxury in the expedition sector, die-hard expedition cruise clients may say all these features detract from the destination, I say there’s certainly no harm in enjoying them!"
